Although I prefer movies that excel in various aspects at the same time, it can be refreshing to watch one that’s really well at a single thing: ‘Il y a Longtemps que je t’aime’. Director Philippe Claudel is so focussed on the actors that for instance image composition suffers. The story, by his hand, is merely a vehicle for the characters that brings drama to respond to, to change as people.
Kristin Scott Thomas rightfully fills the movie poster completely with her face, and while the rest of the cast is definitely strong, she even shines when waiting virtually motionless for the arrival of another character. Her face is a valley where rays of light dance as they break through overhanging clouds, ever changing, fascinating. Go see!
They’ve done it again. As a faithful returning reader, you remember me posting about my providers email newsletters and how the topics in the header form a story of their own. Today it reads: Win some real fun in the snow – Pictures of Carla Bruni naked – too much flashing. Respect: this does make me open their newsletter. Or at least scroll to miss Bruni.
A few days ago, the Christian Womans Association positioned itself in the Central Station to make commuters aware of the fact that women still don’t get equal pay for equal work. Easter eggs they handed out to men were accompanied with: ‘If you would had been a woman, you’d have gotten a bigger egg‘. All I could mumble was ‘I’ll work on that’. 10 Meters further I realized I should have said ‘That’s not fair! Your kind has more eggs already!’.
Where does my love for Ben Stiller come from? Watch the trailer for the upcoming Tropic Thunder” (which he also directed) and say that’s not solid comic gold.
Tom: don’t actually send me an email saying ‘That’s not solid comic gold‘
I had a day off, so I rushed to all the places that are unreachable during the weekend, such as my hair dresser and the bike repairman. See the result of both in this video: hit play!
Today, I was lucky enough to have the bird start singing at 5AM; yesterday it was 4. I tried again to ignore its chant, but, admittedly, the bird sings lovely. Its song is complex and unpredictable, all I can do is listen and lie awake. Or shoot it with my BBgun, but I couldn’t locate it.
So I slept on the couch, again. Tomorrow I must find a solution. If I discover the bird to be the property of a nice grandmother, I shall throw her off the balcony and hope her heirs don’t move in AND keep the bird. I’ll take my chances.
2 huge bags of spinach, half a kilo, all fitted into one bowl once I steamed it. One does appreciate the nice frozen cubes for sale upon cooking spinach. Good thing I opted for fish fingers instead of decapitating and gutting fresh cod fish.
In a unique moment of genius, I came up with THE solution for the problem that advertising and online agencies have been struggling to cope with for decades. Don’t mention it.
The sound sucks, I’ll use an external mic next time.
I just got back from the Belgian coast and decided to film myself on the beach while rambling chaotically instead of writing about it. All this for you to enjoy Hit play!
